What changed in each version. Mactivity checks for updates once a day; choose Mactivity → Check for Updates… to get one now.
Mactivity 0.9.7
Checkup is where you already look: its summary sits on Overview and in the menu bar window, which also says when an app is keeping your Mac awake and shows your accessories' battery levels.
Checkup tells you when Mactivity's notifications are turned off, since every alert and the weekly summary depend on them.
Power by app now measures each app's own energy. It read close to zero before.
On the power adapter, Power draw shows what your Mac is drawing instead of 0, and Source names the adapter's wattage.
Energy Impact lists show each app's share as a percentage, and the Now / Today / 7 days switch stays on the right.
Disk totals count everything since your Mac started up, even from before Mactivity began recording, and say "at least" where history doesn't reach back far enough. Read and write counts are short and readable ("35.3M reads").
Totals over a month or a year (data written, data used, time on battery) no longer overcount hours your Mac slept through part of.
History's charts always span their whole range, and no longer flatten your data under a far-off alert line.
Overview's cards fill every row on wide windows.
Apps are grouped better: the iOS Simulator's helpers count as Simulator, Xcode's device services as Xcode, and app extensions like Excel's widget as their app.
Fewer false alarms: crash alerts and Checkup count crashes of apps, not of command-line tools and test helpers; Checkup no longer suggests quitting parts of macOS; and a "keeps using more memory" alert repeats only once the app has grown again.
Your week says when time in use started recording, instead of calling a few hours a whole week.
Mactivity 0.9.6
No more keychain password prompts: Mactivity keeps your license in a part of the keychain that belongs to the app, so it never has to ask. The first launch moves it over, asking at most once if macOS insists.
Share makes an image of Overview's cards with their live graphs. Send it from the Share menu, copy it, or save it to Downloads.
The year at a glance: History opens with a calendar of the last year, one square per day, for CPU, GPU, memory, disk or network. Click a day to see its hours and its busiest apps.
Export History… in Settings → History saves every hour kept, for every app, as a CSV file for a spreadsheet.
Accessories: History shows the battery of your AirPods, Magic Mouse, Keyboard and Trackpad over time, when each was last charged, and about how long it has left.
History keeps your Mac's battery level (with how many times it charged), memory pressure, swap, and free space, with a forecast of when the disk will be full at the current rate. Data used shows how much each app sent and received.
Sleep: see what's keeping your Mac awake right now (also on the Battery tab), a week of when it slept, and what woke it.
The Disk tab shows data read and written since startup, today, this week, this month and this year, the read and write counts, and which apps wrote the most today.
Crashes and hangs per app, from macOS's own reports on your Mac, and time in front: how long you used each app.
New alerts: an accessory battery low, the disk filling up, an app that keeps crashing, and a Mac that stayed awake all night. Each can be turned off in Settings → Alerts.
Checkup: a short list of what's worth doing on your Mac, from a filling disk to an app that keeps crashing, each with a button to fix it.
Battery use by app, like the iPhone's: switch the Battery tab's list to Today or 7 days to see what used your battery, plus battery health and when it'll reach 80%.
The Battery tab's chart shows your battery level, and says how much you used and charged ("Used 90%, charged 60%"). Top apps show each app's share of energy.
Your week: time in use, sleep, data and crashes for the last seven days, as a card on History, a shareable image, and a Monday notification.
Uninstall App… in Storage moves an app and the files it left in your Library to the Trash, after showing you everything first.
Fixed: top apps ranked apps that ran for a few seconds, like Phone, above apps used all day.
Mactivity 0.9.5
Mactivity now needs a license: $10 once, for up to three of your Macs. Until you paste your key, the window and the menu bar show only the license screen, and nothing is sampled or recorded. Licenses are by invitation during the private beta.
A year of history. Mactivity keeps 15-minute detail for 30 days and hourly detail for a year, and History adds 90-day and 1-year ranges. A year takes about 40 to 60 MB; change it in Settings → History.
At 30 days, the busiest apps show how they moved against the 30 days before.
Search finds processes and PIDs too, not just apps.
Hover a figure like Wired, Compressed or Load average to see what it means.
Mute an app's alerts from its row, or from the notification itself.
Right-click a dev server to open it in your browser, in Terminal or in Finder, or copy its URL.
Storage: press Space for Quick Look, ⌘⌫ to move the selected item to the Trash, ⌘R to rescan, or drag an item into Finder.
VoiceOver reads chart summaries. With Differentiate Without Color on, statuses are shown as words.
Mactivity 0.9.4
Quit, Force Quit, stopping a dev server, disabling a startup item and Move to Trash work again: confirming the dialog did nothing.
Storage rows show Show in Finder and Move to Trash buttons when you point at them, no right-click needed.
After Move to Trash, Mactivity reminds you the space comes back when you empty the Trash.
The Storage list no longer fills empty space with striped rows.
Mactivity 0.9.3
Temperatures in Celsius or Fahrenheit: Settings → General → Temperature. Automatic follows your Mac's region.
Energy Impact no longer spikes when short-lived processes start (Xcode builds read as tens of thousands).
The Battery tab's history says it's showing Energy Impact, with whole numbers on the axis.
Week and month charts no longer show the same date twice.
Battery time remaining uses the battery's own estimate, which isn't capped at 20 hours.
Percentages follow your region's style, like "27 %" in Germany and France.
Choose what each metric shows in Settings → General → Figures: memory as used, percent or pressure; network as download, upload or both; disk as free space, percent used or activity; battery as percent, time left, both or watts; and which temperature sensor. Automatic keeps today's figures.
Hide rows you don't need in the menu bar window: Settings → Menu Bar → Menu bar window.
A Process menu with keyboard shortcuts: Get Info ⌘I, Show in Finder ⇧⌘R, Quit ⌥⌘Q, Force Quit ⌥⌘⌫, plus Quit and Get Info buttons in the toolbar. Mactivity still asks before quitting anything.
Mactivity tells you when notifications are off, with a button to turn them on.
A Storage scan now survives switching tabs.
Desktop Macs get an Energy tab instead of an empty Battery tab.
"Volume" in the sidebar is now "Sound". Clicking the Dock icon opens the window.
Mactivity speaks your language: German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Dutch, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese (Simplified and Traditional). It follows your Mac's language setting. These translations are new; tell us about anything that reads oddly.
Lighter: about 12% less CPU while idle in the menu bar, faster history charts, and the menu bar window and Settings let go of their views when closed.
Mactivity 0.9.2
GPU sits next to CPU everywhere: the sidebar, the menu bar window, Overview, History, and the menu bar picker.
Click an app in the menu bar window to open it in Mactivity, highlighted on that tab.
Share cards carry the Mactivity icon.
Every metric tab lines up exactly: no more jumping when you switch tabs in the menu bar window or the main window.
Rows, columns and headers line up throughout: labels and values in the menu bar window, History's titles, tags, and the storage map, which no longer resizes as you hover it.
Mactivity 0.9.1
The toolbar shows the history range and search only on the tabs they change.
Startup shows an item's details in an inspector you can hide.
The menu bar window's buttons use Liquid Glass.
With Increase Contrast on, status dots, card edges, warning tags and the storage map are easier to see.
Storage's Map, Categories, Developer and Largest Files switcher sits in the toolbar.
Mactivity 0.9.0
The first public beta: every process grouped under its app, 30 days of history, alerts, and four menu bar displays.
Projects with dev servers and Docker containers, Storage, Startup, sensors and peripheral batteries.
Per-app volume, experimental and off until you turn it on.
Signed and notarized by Apple, with automatic updates.
